Argument for Measure B

A Yes Vote on Measure B, the “Solar Energy and Job Creation Program,” means good jobs, green energy and strengthening Los Angeles’ economy.
We cannot afford to wait any longer to develop cleaner, renewable energy sources. Measure B is an important step toward ensuring that future generations will not have to depend on expensive and highly polluting forms of energy. That’s why environmental groups support Measure B.
MEASURE B CREATES GOOD JOBS AND STRENGTHENS LOS ANGELES’ ECONOMY
Measure B will create hundreds of good, family-supporting jobs in Los Angeles with good benefits – jobs that might go elsewhere. It also establishes a job training and outreach academy and targets jobs to under-served communities.
Other renewable plans generate new businesses and jobs outside the area, not in Los Angeles. Measure B will produce new business and jobs in Los Angeles where they are desperately needed.
MEASURE B HELPS SAVE LIVES
Air pollution and smog is responsible for thousands of cases of lung disease, asthma, and deaths in Los Angeles each year. Measure B will help us save lives by helping keep our air clean and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
MEASURE B PROTECTS RATEPAYERS
LADWP’s own analysts estimate that any rate increase resulting from Measure B after five years will be minor. However, Measure B saves money in the long run because over time solar power will be significantly cheaper than alternatives like coal and gas.
MEASURE B MAKES LOS ANGELES A CENTER FOR SOLAR TECHNOLOGY
Measure B is supported by environmental groups and experts like the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies, because it will make Los Angeles a center for solar technology.
TIME FOR A BOLD STEP−VOTE YES ON MEASURE B
After a decade of tax credits and private sector investment, Los Angeles has only 14 megawatts of solar power – less than one percent of the City’s power supply. Measure B will ensure that the city develops clean solar power NOW.
